Keeping Your Accounts Up to Date

When Recap syncs your connected accounts, how to sync them yourself, and which accounts sync.

Written by Scott

Exchange API and Wallet accounts import new transactions when they sync. Recap syncs them when you add the account, each time the app loads with Sync on startup turned on, and whenever you start a sync yourself. It doesn't keep syncing while the app is open, so if you've traded or moved funds since the last sync, run one to bring those transactions in.

How to sync

  • Sync all: on the Accounts screen, click Sync all in the toolbar. This syncs every connected account in the current view, so clear any filters first if you want all of them.

  • Sync now: to sync one account, open its menu on the Accounts screen and choose Sync now. If the option reads Reconnect instead, the account needs you to sign in or enter its API key again before it can sync.

  • Sync on startup: every active account syncs once each time the app loads. This is on by default for most portfolios. If your accounts aren't updating when you open Recap, check the switch under Settings → General → Syncing; portfolios created since August 2026 start with it off.

Checking when an account last synced

Each account on the Accounts screen shows how long ago it last synced, for example "Synced 3 days ago". In table view this is the Last synced column, and you can sort by it to find the accounts that need a sync.

Which accounts sync

  • Active accounts sync with Sync all, Sync now and Sync on startup.

  • Archived accounts keep their transactions but are left out of Sync on startup. Use Sync now if you need to update one.

  • Ignored accounts don't sync.

  • Exchange Statement and Custom accounts have nothing to sync. To add newer transactions, upload a new statement or CSV. See Exchange Statement Account and Importing CSVs into Custom Accounts.

Resyncing a wallet from scratch

Wallet accounts also have Resync transactions on the Settings tab of the Account Detail screen. This downloads the wallet's full history again rather than just new transactions, which helps after a fix to an integration. It doesn't remove anything already imported. Exchange API accounts don't have this option; use Sync now instead.

⚠️ If transactions are missing, sync the account before adding anything by hand. A manual copy of a transaction the sync later imports gives you a duplicate, and both count towards your tax. If the sync itself fails, see Transaction Errors.
