Recap supports connecting to BitMEX using our API integration.

This allows Recap to automatically import your BitMEX transaction history and keep your account up to date.

This guide will walk you through creating an API key on BitMEX and connecting it to Recap.

Step 1: Create your BitMEX API key

  1. Go to https://www.bitmex.com and log in to your account.

  2. Click your profile icon in the top-right corner and select API Keys from the menu.

  3. On the API Keys page, click Create API Key.
Enter a name for your API key, such as Recap API Key.

  4. Configure the permissions:

    • ✅ Enable Read / View permissions

    • ❌ Do not enable withdrawals or trading permissions

  5. Leave the CIDR / IP restriction field blank unless you are an advanced user restricting access by IP.

  6. Complete any required Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) checks.

  7. Copy and save:

    • API Key

    • API Secret

⚠️ The API secret is only shown once. Make sure you save it securely.

Step 2: Add your BitMEX account to Recap

  1. Log in to your Recap account and navigate to the Accounts screen.

  2. Click Add account in the top-right corner.

  3. Select Connect to Exchange API followed by Next.

  4. Choose BitMEX then click Next again.

  5. Name your account (e.g., "BitMEX") and click Next.

  6. Enter your ID and Secret then click Next

Recap will now verify the connection and begin importing your transaction history.

Step 3: Review your imported transactions

  1. If your history is large, the initial sync may take a few minutes to complete.

  2. Navigate to the Activity screen.

  3. Check that deposits, withdrawals, trades, and transfers appear correctly.

Once connected, Recap will automatically keep your account up to date.

Managing your API connection

  • You can view or remove the BitMEX connection at any time from the Accounts screen.

  • If your API key is revoked or expires, create a new one on BitMEX and reconnect it in Recap.

Troubleshooting & common issues

  • Invalid API key or secret
Double-check that all details were copied correctly and without extra spaces.

  • Missing transactions
Some platforms limit how far back API data is available.

  • Permission errors
Ensure the API key has read-only permissions enabled.

Security notes

  • Recap only requires read-only API access and therefore cannot move funds or place trades.

  • You can revoke API access at any time from the BitMEX website.
