The Settings screen in Recap allows you to configure various aspects of your account, tax reporting, data management, and support preferences. It is divided into five key sections: General, Tax, Data Management, Plan & Billing, and Support. Below is an overview of each section and its available settings.

General

This section helps you set up fundamental aspects of your Recap experience, including default settings and account preferences.

  • Home Country: This setting defines your default currency and tax method, influencing how numbers and dates are formatted in Recap.

  • Valuation Currency: Choose the currency in which valuations will be displayed.

  • Aggregate Trades: When enabled, this setting aggregates exchange trades within a one-minute sliding window. This is particularly useful for rolling up rapid trade fills to declutter your activity feed.

  • Sync on Startup: This controls whether all your accounts automatically sync when the application loads for the first time.

  • Secret Phrase: If you’ve forgotten your secret phrase, you can view it here. Be sure to back it up securely!

  • Account Type: Choose between two types:

    • Personal: For individuals tracking and calculating taxes on their own crypto assets.

    • Agent: For accountants, financial professionals, or tax advisors managing crypto taxes on behalf of clients.

  • Log Out: Log out of Recap and return to the login screen.

Tax

This section helps you configure settings related to tax calculations and reporting.

  • Tax Authority: Determines the tax rules applied to your calculations based on your location.

  • Airdrop Cost Method: Choose how the cost basis for airdrops is calculated:

    • Market Value: The market value at the time of receiving the airdrop is used as the acquisition cost, meaning the airdrop is considered taxable income.

    • Zero Cost: The airdrop is treated as having no acquisition cost, so when you dispose of the asset, the capital gain is calculated based on the full proceeds.

  • Filing Type: Choose between filing as an individual (Self Assessment Tax Return) or as a company (Company Tax Return).

  • Pricing Method: Select the pricing method used for valuations in your tax report. It’s important to remain consistent with this method across all tax returns.

  • Methodology: Displays the methodology used for your tax calculations.

  • Currency: Shows the currency in which your tax calculations are performed.

  • Useful Links: Provides links to important tax-related resources, including Recap’s tax guide and HMRC’s Cryptoassets Guidance.

Data Management

This section allows you to manage and reset key data elements in your Recap account.

  • Reset All Market Prices: Resets all market prices across all your accounts, excluding any manually added "User" prices.

  • Import a Recap-beta Backup (.bak) File: Enables you to import data from a previous Recap-beta backup file.

  • Delete All of Your Data: This option lets you delete all the data in your Recap account, essentially starting from scratch with a clean slate.

Plan & Billing

This section is where you manage your subscription and billing information.

  • Manage Subscription: Here you can cancel your subscription, change payment methods, or view your billing history.

Support

Recap provides multiple ways to get support and help with your account and transactions.

  • Help Center: Access the Help Center to find solutions to issues related to tax, data reconciliation, and importing queries. You can search by keywords to quickly find relevant guides and FAQs.

  • Chat with Customer Support: Use the chat messenger for direct support from the UK-based team, available from 9 am to 5 pm. Pro and Basic subscribers receive priority support.

  • Share Data with Support Team: When requested by the support team, you can activate this option to share your data, helping them diagnose and resolve issues more effectively.
